The Magazine Lady Rattlers survived scoring droughts to end both halves but were able to knock off Johnson County Westside 45-36 Tuesday night on Senior Night.

The win locked up the number four seed for the Lady Rattlers regardless of what would happen Friday night in their game at Hector or elsewhere in the league.

In the boys game senior Jacob Hall had a career night with a team-high 12 points as three Rattlers reached double figures in a 68-52 loss to the Rebels.

There were three three lead changes in the first 3:40 of the game, the first occurring on a 3 by Kiara Vasquez, with an assist to Taryn Leslie, one of two seniors on the roster.

A basket by Hannah Green, the other Lady Rattler senior, made it 5-4 and Magazine led the rest of the way.

A second 3 by Vasquez, who would score 21 points, had the Lady Rattlers up 12-6 with 1:28 left in the opening quarter but the Lady Rebels would get back within 14-12 after a 3 by Ryleigh McMillan before a pair of Vasquez free throws ended the first quarter scoring and made it 16-12.

Westside again got within two at 16-14 on a basket by Kailee Hayes but the Lady Rattlers rattled of the next seven points and led 23-14 with 5:25 left in the first half.

But Magazine wouldn’t score the rest of the half and Westside as able, behind McMillan, to cut the lead to 23-19 before the intermission.

A 3 by Gracie Domerese cut it back to seven but Robinson hit a free throw and Vasquez scored three the old fashioned way to make it 33-21.

Westside would score just four more points in the quarter and Robinson and Vasquez assisted each other for baskets and Robinson scored again after a steal to make it 40-25 through three quarters.

A Vasquez basket and a Robinson free throw had the lead at 43-26 with 6:17 to play but the Lady Rattlers would not score again until a Vasquez basket made it 45-29 with 3:50 remaining.

Westside then scored the next seven points to set the final.

Missing the front end of three straight one-and-ones and missing on five straight from the line, the Lady Rattlers did themselves few favors in putting the game away.

For the night the Lady Rattlers were 5-of-14 at the line.
