Thursday was Talk Like a Pirate Day. The Pirates of Cedarville didn’t have much to say against the Booneville Junior High Bearcats in the Conference 3A-1 opener for both schools at Glen Wisley Stadium.
The Bearcats (3-1, 1-0) scored 24 second quarter points on the way to a 24-8 win that ended a Pirate junior high program winning streak that dated back to 2016.
Dax Goff scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 1 and 17 yards and Brooks Herrera also ran 7 yards for a score. Rylen Ray had one two point conversions and Herrera had a pair of conversion runs.
Herrera ran for a pair of third quarter touchdowns but both were negated by penalties.
Goff ran for 59 yards, Ray 48, and Herrera 42.
Ray also recovered a Pirate fumble and Chase Plymale had eight tackles with three for a loss. Welling had seven tackles, including one for a loss.
The Booneville seventh grade Bearcats (0-4, 0-1) fell 28-6 despite a 100-yard passing game by Jace Washburn, who connected with Noah Stewart for 31 yards and a touchdown to account for the Bearcat points.
