Already assured of a berth in the Class 3A Region 2 tournament the Booneville Bearcats used the long ball to sweep a double header from Perryville Tuesday, winning 15-9 and 14-3 to claim no less than the three seed.

It was the third double header sweep of the year for the Bearcats (16-7, 11-3 Conference 3A-4).

The wins also put Lamar (7-6) into a position to join the field with a win over Two Rivers Friday. Fountain Lake (11-2) needs only to beat Jessieville (2-11) to land the top seed with Atkins (12-2) as the two seed.

A loss by the Cobras Friday would make Atkins the one, the Bearcats the two and the Cobras the three.

In the opener yesterday Brandon Ulmer hit three home runs – he had two coming into the day – and drove in six with the solo, two run and three run shots. Ulmer also doubled in another at bat in support of Michael Hesson.

Hesson pitched into the seventh and got his third straight win. He also hit a two run home run himself.

In the nightcap Blakely Cobb hit a grand slam and threw four shutout innings in relief of starter Gabe Fennell. The home run was Cobb’s fourth of the year.
