Both the Magazine Rattler and Lady Rattler track teams finished fourth in the initial track meet at the revamped John Bunch, Jr. Memorial Stadium in Elkins Thursday.
The Rattlers scored 60 points before the team left the venue with three events remaining, which was well behind the top 3 but still five points better than fifth place West Fork.
With Tatum Scott winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.99 and Jesse Witt placing third with a time of 56.34, Magazine collected 16 points in the event.
Chase Gibson had the second highest finish, placing second in the high jump at 5’ 10”. Gibson was also fourth in the long jump at 18’.
Witt had a second third place finish in the triple jump (39’ 9”) with Jacob Hall placing one spot out of the scoring in ninth.
Caley Hyatt placed fourth in the shot put (39’) and eighth in the discus (92’ 2”).
Magazine also got two points from Xeng Yang in the discus who was seventh at 92’ 4”. Yang also place eighth in the 110-meter hurtles (19.6), and was one spot out of the scoring in the 300-meter hurdles in ninth.
Justin Cox took third in the pole vault (8’ 5”) and Levi Wright was seventh in the 1600-meter run at 5:29.89.
The Rattler 4x800-meter relay team of Wright, Witt, Sam Duvall and Cox was sixth and the 4x100-meter relay team of Tsim Neej Vang, Nate Bryan, Yang, and Witt was fourth at 54.49.
The Lady Rattlers got 20 points from Hannah Smith finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles (18:49); fourth in the long jump, at 21’ 5”; and fifth in both the 300-meter hurdles (54.65) and the high jump, at 4’ 4”.
The top mark was the 4x100-meter relay team Kelsey Krigbaum, Green, Lauren Littleton, and Haley Durrough, which was second (1:00.41).
Claire Curtis was fifth in both the shot put (27’ 7”) and discus (73’ 2”) and Hannah Green scored in both the pole vault where she tied for third at 7’ 5” and in the 400 (1:14.31), where whe was eighth.
Lauren Ryan placed sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:48.
Carlee Parrish was also seventh in the pole vault and Parrish, Ryan, Michael-Ann Dobson and Marina Smerna were third in the 4x800-meter relay.
The Lady Rattlers were only 9.5 points behind third place Decatur, edging fifth place Shiloh Christian by 1.5 points.
