Magazine's Tatum Scott wins 400 at Elkins track meet

A busy sports day in south Logan County saw two baseball teams, two softball teams, and a senior high track team in action and Booneville hosting a seventh grade track meet that Magazine also attended.

Booneville had a near spotless day with three team wins.


Scoring 10 runs in the third through sixth innings, the Bearcats beat Waldron 12-2 in a nonconference game.

Ethan Dobbs (1-2) went 4 and two thirds to get the win and Jacob Herrera finished it.

Carson Ray was 2-for-4 and both Herrera and Cam Brasher drove in two runs.

Magazine opened its season with a 17-0 road loss at County Line.


Shelby Posey plated three runs in a five run seventh as the Lady Bearcats broke a tie and beat Acorn 14-9.

Joleigh Tate and Brooklyn Zarlingo were both 3-for-5 and Keara Ross and Brooklyn Turner both drove in three runs.

Magazine scored three first inning runs but dropped its second game of the year, 16-6 at County Line.

Emily Staton scored twice for the Lady Rattlers.


With Tatum Scott winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.99 the Rattler boys squad finished fourth overall in Elkins’s first track meet at its revamped John Bunch, Jr. Memorial Field.

The Lady Rattlers were also fourth overall as Hannah Smith scored in both hurdle events, the high jump and triple jump. She totaled 20 points.

In Booneville the seventh grade Bearcats won the meet they hosted and the Lady Bearcats finished fourth overall.
