Booneville’s home opener marked the return of Brandon Ulmer to the field and the beginning of conference play. Sidelined since a week zero football game injury that required surgery, Ulmer was medically cleared on Monday.

Tuesday Ulmer was in the lineup as the Bearcats (1-4, 0-1 Conference 3A-4) designated hitter and he would record one of the four Bearcat hits in the game, and the only extra base hit of the day, when he doubled home a run in the sixth that made it 3-2.

Cam Brasher drove in the first run of the game but Atkins got to Michael Hesson (0-2) for three runs over five innings.

Ben Jackson went the distance for Atkins (2-1, 1-1) and also reached base in four straight trips, going 2-for-3, reaching on an error and being hit by a pitch.

Scranton 13 Lady Rattlers 3

Playing their season opener the Magazine Lady Rattlers (0-1) fell behind 8-0 after an inning on the way to a loss to the Lady Rockets.

Victoria Thompson, Kylie Robinson and Emily Staton accounted for the Magazine runs.

As was the case with Bearcat Relays on Monday, Booneville's Junior Bearcat Relays was postponed.
