Sports are overlapping this week in southern Logan County with the start of baseball and softball season, and perhaps track, and, of course, basketball still in force for Booneville.

The later plays an opening round Class 3A state tournament game in Osceola against Waldron at 5:30 on Wednesday. The Bearcats (28-3) have beaten the Bulldogs twice this season in tournaments here and in Mansfield in December.

Today marks the beginning of baseball season for Booneville as they face Van Buren in the Prep Baseball Report tournament at 4. A win would earn a 6:30 p.m. game against Greenwood while a loss means a 4 p.m. game Tuesday against Fayetteville or Shiloh Christian.

The Lady Cat softball team is scheduled to face Danville Wednesday at 4:30 but Danville’s girls are in the state 2A basketball tournament.

Magazine baseball has a 10 inning exhibition at Lamar on Thursday and the Rattler track squads have a home date scheduled – Monday’s possible date was cancelled.
