There was only one lead change Wednesday night in the Class 3A Region 2 tournament game in Perryville between Booneville, the top seed from the 3A-4 and Episcopal Collegiate, the four seed from the 3A-5.
After Booneville (27-2) took its first lead, they led the rest of the way, eventually winning 63-47.
Booneville took a 41-39 lead on a pair of Nate Riley free throws with 27.4 seconds to play in the third quarter and the Bearcats and closed the game on a 14-2 run to punch their ticket into next week’s Class 3A state tournament, which will be hosted by Osceola.
With Booneville and Episcopal deadlocked at 39-39 there were 10 possessions before the score changed. Even then it took an offensive rebound to keep the possession alive and a foul of Riley to finally see the ball pass through the net.
Episcopal had led by as many as 11 in the first half and still led 31-24 at the break before Logan Bradley took over, leading the way with 24 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Bradley scored 18 seconds half points.
Blakely Cobb and Grant Goers both scored 10 points. Che Smith scored 13 and Chris Smith added 12 for the Wildcats (12-19).
The Bearcats will play the winner of tomorrow's 8:30 p.m., Mayflower-Jessieville game at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
