Magazine is hosting 2A West/Central Regional basketball tournament through Saturday.

Three of the four number one seeds punched tickets for the Class 2A state tournament Wednesday night in the Class 2A West/Central Regional basketball tournament being hosted at Magazine’s Diamondback Arena.

The lone top seed to fall was the Lavaca Golden Arrows, 64-57 to White County Central, who was the four seed from the 2A-4 East and who will be hosting next week’s Class 2A state tournament.

White County Central (31-6), advanced in the final game of the night after overtaking 2A-4 West top seed Lavaca (23-8) with an 8-0 second quarter run that included the second tie of the game and the eighth lead change.

The Bears built a 10-point lead by halftime and were up 15 after three quarters before the Golden Arrows got within three with 32 seconds to go.

WCC was led by Jagger Myers with 15 points and Garret Finley and Marlin Carder both scored 14. Lavaca’s Garrett Eck and Ryan Dockery both scored 20.

Johnson County Westside 59 Conway Christian 46

The lone 2A-4 West team to win on the first night, the Lady Rebels (24-6) maintained a double-digit lead most of the second half in the 7 p.m. game, on the way to beating Conway Christian.

The Lady Rebels led by 12 with less than a minute to go in the first half only to have Stormy Stacks pull the Lady Eagles to within seven.

Alyssa Cummins and Kelsey Criss pushed the lead back to 33-21 in the first two minutes of the second half and Conway Christian (15-11) got no closer than seven the rest of the way.

Stacks finished the night with a so-far tournament best 28 points before fouling out. Cummins had 15 poins, Madison Shelton 13, Criss 12 and Lauryn Brasel nine for Westside.

Quitman 61 Magazine 44

The 2A-4 East champion Bulldogs (24-11) never trailed but did see Magazine (15-13) three times cut their lead to just two points in the 5:30 game.

It was a six-point game at the half and the difference was 39-30 after three quarters before the Bulldogs hit 14-of-15 fourth quarter foul shots to keep the host team at bay.

Zac Shue scored 16 points, Zackary Heffentrager 13 and David Alvarez 12 for Quitman.

Scoreless in the first half due to foul trouble, Matt Smith scored 16 second half points to lead the Rattlers, seeded fourth from the 2A-4 West. Randon Baumgartner added 11 and Max Greb nine.

Quitman 52 Lavaca 31

The two time defending state champion and 2A-4 East top seeded Lady Bulldogs (30-3) began the second quarter of the tournament opener with a 9-0 and led 16-7 on the way to a 23-11 halftime advantage.

Lavaca (23-7) would eventually be a sportsmanship rule victim as the deficit grew to 52-22 with 5:52 to play but the Lady Golden Arrows scored the final nine points of the game.

Autumn Johnson was the only Lady Bulldog in double figures, scoring 21 points. Hope Headley had seven to lead Lavaca, who was seeded fourth from the 2A-4 West, after being the one seed in the district tournament the previous week.
