If you are a fan of defense you may want to re-read an older post or wait for another game. There wasn't a whole lot of defense on this November night in 2014 that finds itself at number 15 on our countdown of the 50 greatest games in the history of Bearcat Stadium, which on Sept. 1 will open its gates for its 50th season.

The opponent was Hoxie this quarterfinal night, who has a kid who is a starting quarterback at Arkansas Monticello. He had a big night. Not even close to being big enough of course. As I've said multiple times, there are no losses on this countdown.

Why was this game chosen? The 63 Bearcat points scored this night is not a stadium record, that one is coming, but the 110 points the two teams combined to score are, and one of only two games that topped the 100-point mark. You may be seeing the other one in the near future too.

What do I remember? Obviously there was a boat load of offense. Bearcat head coach Scott Hyatt was none too pleased that the Bearcats wouldn't put the Mustangs in the stable, but there really never was a time when you really wondered if the game could get away from the Bearcats. The fans were loving the offense.

Also, it was 63-47 late in the game when Hoxie failed on an onside kick with over two minutes to go, but then neglected to use their timeouts. At 16 points that's two possessions so I wondered aloud if they were throwing in the towel a little early. 'They're afraid we'll score again,' Ricky May insisted. Since the Bearcats scored nine times, that's a logical assumption I guess. I kinda would have liked to see the 70.

What does Tyler Matthews (T-Matt) remember? That game we worked on a certain defense in practice all week and we came out and were in a different, very slightly, defense. But them changing where they lined up changed the blocking assignments for me.

They widened the two guys that were normally head up on the guards to the outside shoulder and the rule in 47 and 48 was to block the next man over unless they were outside of the guard then the guard picked them up. But what saved it was Coach Walker during summer practices always drilled it into our heads that if your guy is blocked or gone, lock up with the first person you see. Well I went the direction I was supposed to and it basically turned into the me pulling because the next guy to show up was the playside linebacker.

We did not have a play in the book where the center pulled but that we had to do.

What happened? Did I mention there was a lot of offense, 990 yards to be precise, with the Bearcats winning that too, 529-461. Because of that let's go individual first. Matt Berry 14-165, 3 TD; Josh Smith 13-162, 3 TD: Bryson May 19-116, 2 TD. May also threw for 48 yards to Hayden Fennell but it was Smith who caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from James Ray.

To be fair, Cole Sears ran for four touchdowns in his 19 carries for 83 yards and threw for three more in his 339 yards (19-27-0).

Besides his four touchdowns, Smith was perfect in nine PATs for 33 total points.
