Evening began with "game" against youth league teams.

Rather than a straight scrimmage affair, the annual Purple-Gold scrimmage between Bearcat teammates was timed and bragging rights were up for grabs.

In the end, however, there were no rights to be had as both teams managed a single touchdown.

For the Purple team it was a fourth down scramble by sophomore quarterback Evan Schlinker from the 1. He had hit Jacob Gregory for a big gain to start the scrimmage.

The Gold team, though they were wearing White, drew even after a break following the first 20 minutes of play, on a Grant Rodatz touchdown run.

The Gold team had the ball knocking on the door at the end of both “halves” of the scrimmage only to run out of time.

Head coach Scott Hyatt said he was pleased with the scrimmage, especially considering how physical it was, with no injuries among his thin, 36-man roster.

Prior to the scrimmage the Bearcats entertained the Booneville Youth League squads in the annual tilt that is now a decade old.

Hyatt and the Bearcats now turn their attention to Monday’s jamboree scrimmage in Charleston which will be followed by the 2017 season opener against Pea Ridge at Bearcat Stadium on Sept. 1.
