Magazine led Mount Ida 6-0 at halftime of their junior high season opener Thursday but the Rattler coaches felt like it should have been more.

In due time it would be. The Rattlers (1-0) opened a 22-0 lead through the third quarter and punctuated the 30-0 win with a fourth quarter touchdown.

Caleb Hyatt had accounted for all the first half scoring with his touchdown. There was a turnover and a turnover on downs by the Rattlers on other possessions

After the Lions opened the second half with the football the Rattler defense preserved the lead – Tsim Neej Vang had an interception and William King a fumble recovery to account for Rattler takeaways on the night – and and Xeng Yang ran for a touchdown that made it 14-0.

By the time the quarter ended Hyatt had tacked the Mount Ida punter, who had tracked down an errant snap, at the Lion 1-yard line. Kobe Faughn scored the next play and the lead was 22-0.

Yang scored for the second time in the final quarter and Hyatt’s two-point conversion run made it a 30-0 pounding.

The Rattlers were scheduled to play Waldron’s JV last night (Sept. 6) and will play Lamar’s JV in Magazine on Monday, Sept. 12.
