Joan Joan Sullivent, passed away on Sept. 17, 2017 at the age of 76 years at her home in Booneville, Arkansas.
A native of Corona, Calif., Joan attended Corona Schools from kindergarten through high school. She then attended California State Polytechnic College in Pomona, Calif..
She began her career with the Navel Ordinance Lab in Norco, Calif., where she was did secretarial work for the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Joan then went on to work for the United States Social Security office where she remained for over 40 years. She retired from Social Security and went onto work for a law firm in Harrison, Ark.
Over Joan’s life she lived in California then moved to Montana. Some of her favorite days of her life were living on the Lazy EL Ranch where her husband Ken was a working cowboy. Joan had a lifelong love for horses, so to her, this ranch was like living in ‘Heaven’ on earth. While working for Social Security Joan took a job with the Harrison SS division. She continued to live and work in Harrison until she retired and then Alzheimer’s disease made it impossible for her to live in her home. She spent time living a in a Springfield, Mo. facility. After 18 months Joan moved to Booneville, where she lived with her sister and brother-in-law for the remainder of her life.
Joan is preceded in death by her father Orin Shoemaker, her mother Dorothy Rawson Shoemaker, and her husband Kenneth Sullivent.
She is survived by her only child Marla Williams (Doug) , her two brothers Michael Shoemaker (Margie) and Stephen Shoemaker (Jan) and her three sisters Robyn Bynum (David), Diane Shores (Larry) and Lisa Cox. Joan will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and extended family members. She had a host of friends that will miss her. A Celebration of Joan s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Mount Magazine Arkansas’s Cameron Bluff with Reverend Todd Rowland officiating. All are welcome to attend.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
