Tyson Foods, headquartered in Springdale, and the River Valley Regional Food Bank partnered for a community food giveaway on Thursday in celebration of Hunger Action Day.

Hunger Action Day is a day when Feeding America food banks join together to advocate and focus efforts and actions on ending hunger.

Tyson Foods donated more than 40,000 pounds of protein products to the food bank this week, as part of the company’s strategic long-term partnership with the food bank. The company also made the donation in an effort to help the food bank help fight hunger in west central Arkansas during Hunger Action Month, which takes place in September.

That donation was offered to the public and to some of the food bank’s 163 agency pantry partners on Thursday. The donation translates to 26,666 meals.

"We are very grateful for Tyson’s generosity and their commitment to our mission of fighting hunger in our community," River Valley Regional Food Bank Director Tracy Engel said in a news release. "This partnership helps us connect our community to quality proteins that may be out of reach for many families we serve. We thank Tyson Foods for all they do to support us."
