Recount set for 3 p.m. Friday

Results of yesterday’s 4 mill tax increase request by the Magazine School District have been reversed and has apparently failed.

A recount is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, in Logan County Clerk Peggy Fitzjurls' office in Paris.

While the number of votes cast in the new total has not changed the results are now unofficially 96 against and 95 for the increase. The election was conducted with paper ballots.

Fitzjurls said in an email to the Democrat today that she sent incorrect information after the votes were tabulated Tuesday night.

According to the breakdown provided by Fitzjurls today, there were 24 early votes – 22 were in Booneville and 2 in Paris – with 17 votes against the increase and 7 for. There were no absentee votes.

At the polls in Magazine Tuesday there were 167 votes cast with 88 in favor of the increase and 79 against it, resulting in a combined total of 96 against and 95 for votes.

Election results will be certified by the Logan County Election Commission in Fitzjurls’ office in Paris at 4 p.m. on Friday, Fitzjurls said.
