An upcoming ceremony dedicated to honoring both those who died in the Vietnam War and those who survived it will be held at a new location.
Charles Foster, a retired resident of Barling, said the ceremony he will host to pay tribute to families who had loved ones give their lives in the war will take place at the auditorium at Ramsey Junior High School in Fort Smith. A previous Times Record article stated it was to be held at VFW Post 8845 in Fort Smith. The time and date for the event, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m., remains unchanged.
The reason for the change of venue, Foster said, is due to the increasing number of family members and others wanting to attend the event, which exceeded what VFW Post 8845 could handle. The number of people interested in attending is currently at about 220 to 225, Foster said. Some of those planning to attend who Foster has already talked to are planning on inviting more people.
Families of deceased service members who lived in the area will be presented with an 11x14 matted and framed certificate at the ceremony. Foster will also recognize and thank those who survived the war. The public is invited to attend.
