Two suspects from the Tulsa area were arrested after allegedly delivering heroin in Van Buren on Friday.
Juan Valentin Zavala, 23, and Marcus Alexander Vasquez, 22, were arrested in the Walmart parking lot in Van Buren after delivering two grams of heroin in the city, a Van Buren Police Department news release states. Both men were arrested on suspicion of delivery of a schedule I or II controlled substance, which is a class C felony.
The arrests were the result of a monthlong investigation conducted by the 12th and 21st Judicial Drug Task Forces and the Van Buren Police Department criminal investigation division.
In an attempt to flee the scene, Vasquez backed into a vehicle occupied by a drug task force agent, the release states. Although there were no injuries as a result of crash, Vasquez was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a class D felony. In addition, Zavala reportedly told investigators he has previously been deported on two separate occasions.
