The Booneville City Council last week approved a rezoning recommendation for a Fourth Street property owned by a councilman from residential to commercial.
The property at Fourth and North Welsh, which is owned by councilman Steve Reid, is reportedly to be operated as a bed and breakfast. A public hearing on the request was held prior to the monthly council meeting and drew no opposition.
There was a stipulation, however, Booneville Mayor Jerry Wilkins states, that if the property is ever sold by the Reids, who also own Reid’s Hometown Barbecue, the zoning automatically reverts to residential property.
The council also accepted a bid from Arkansas Valley Insurance to cover all city property. The winning bid was one of two submitted during the bid period and covered a courtesy vehicle the city keeps at he airport, where the losing bid did not.
Arkansas Valley also held the policy for the city for the current year and the new policy is $1,000 less than it was for the previous year, Wilkins said.
