The United Way’s Day of Caring last Thursday was mostly a day of raining, but that did not deter volunteers.
High school students with the First Western Bank youth advisory board and bank employees showed up at the Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County.
Though the plan was for general grounds work, installing permanent goal frames, field striping, and other green space area preparation at the Boys & Girls Club soccer complex could not be completed, the volunteers did a variety of jobs within the club including facility cleaning, file organization and more.
At the Girl Scout Diamonds’ Camp Cahinnio the plan was for painting the exterior of the dining hall, trail maintenance, power washing and landscaping around the facilities.
The painting project became one of staining the interior of the dining hall but a lot of the outside activities went on as planned with the workers, from Trane Manufacturing in Fort Smith, donning rain gear and using chain saws and other equipment to clear areas and stack the brush.
