The Magazine School Board last week reached an agreement with Dr. Beth Shumate to become the next superintendent of the Magazine School District.
Shumate was the final of four candidates who went through multiple interview sessions with focus groups and the school board Tuesday through Friday of last week.
Current superintendent Brett Bunch, who is leaving the district to become the superintendent at Newport, said the board deliberated about an hour and a half after Friday’s interview before beginning contract negotiations with Shumate.
Bunch said a special board meeting would be held this week to take an official vote on hiring Shumate. Heh said there were plans for Shumate to be at the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting on May 9 as well.
Shumate is currently employed with the Arkansas School Board Association. She was formerly a Deputy Superintendent for the North Little Rock School District.
Combined, Shumate has seven years in school administration administration. Five of those years are as a deputy superintendent and two are as an assistant superintendent in Morrilton.
