A suspect who allegedly fired a gun at officers while he fled in a vehicle early Tuesday morning was arrested in Van Buren.

The suspect, whom authorities did not identify Tuesday morning, was arrested on suspicion of multiple pending charges after he allegedly crashed his vehice in Van Buren following the pursuit from Barling through Fort Smith. He allegedly fired shots out his vehicle window at the officers while they pursued him. Officers were not injured and did not return fire during the pursuit, said Barling police Capt. Aaron Townshend.

Barling police administration on Tuesday morning had not taken actions in reference to the officers involved in the pursuit. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Townshend said.

Barling police early Tuesday did a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle after they were told to be on the lookout for it. He allegedly began the pursuit after he told police he couldn't step out of the vehicle.

The suspect allegedly shot at the officers while he drove through Fort Smith, Townshend said.

Officers arrested the suspect after he crashed his vehcle under another vehicle parked at a residence near 21st and Williams streets in Van Buren. He was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center after his arrest, Townshend said.

Barling, Sebastian County, Arkansas State Police, Crawford County Sheriff's Office and Van Buren officers were involved in the pursuit.

Barling police will issue a news release about the incident later Tuesday, Townshend said.
