Spring is definitely in the air.
Daylight savings time began over the weekend. Next Tuesday marks the official beginning of spring, which runs through June 20.
Arkansas school districts and universities will be also be off for spring break next week.
Next week, March 19-23, is also the week the City of Booneville has selected for its annual spring cleanup, the time when many, otherwise ineligible items will be collected by city sanitation department workers.
Collections will coincide with the city’s trash service collection schedule and will happen provided certain rules are observed.
To be eligible for pickup, all metal items must be placed in a separate pile and all sofas, recliners, mattresses, furniture and like items should be placed in an additional separate pile.
As in the past, because the service in Booneville is a city project, city residents are the only ones eligible to have items hauled away from their residences.
No tires will be picked up. Other items ineligible for the service include boards, rocks, bags of concrete, shingles, paint, batteries and bricks or blocks.
Also ineligible are brush and limbs, which are picked up on a normal schedule by city workers.
Anyone who doesn’t wish to wait will be permitted use of any of three dumpsters located at 534 North Welsh. There is also a burn pile behind the city’s equipment shed at the location where items can be left.
City Hall officials add no containers will be returned following the cleanup.
