Donna Robinson and Dana Goff of the Magazine School District were presented with an Emerging Growing Healthy Community award from the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention Tuesday afternoon.

Paula Beaty, administrator of the Arkansas Department of Health’s Logan County health units presented the award.

The designation is awarded to communities who have set out to get healthier by addressing access to healthy foods, early childhood and schools, access to physical activity and work-site wellness. In each community identified as a Growing Healthy Community, there is an organized, multidisciplinary team working to drive health forward.

Growing a Healthy Magazine has worked with local partners to create a community garden which is also accessed by students in the school district to introduce healthy foods, improve physical activity and incorporate an outdoor learning environment with traditional English, math and science instruction.

Additionally, the group has also partnered with the ADH to implement a web-based work-site wellness program for employees of the Magazine School District.
