The Magazine School Board filled a vacancy on its panel in a special meeting last week by appointing Bob Scharbor to the board.

Scharbor, who was in attendance Thursday, replaces former president LeAnn Jones who resigned earlier in July due to a relative being moved into a position that would grant her more than a $5,000 raise.

Superintendent Brett Bunch said the board had 30 days to make the appointment but he was glad to get the appointment final.

“I wanted to make sure if you decided who you wanted they could take the oath and be a voting member at our next board meeting,” said Bunch.

Scharbor will fill the seat to which Jones was elected in 2014 through next September at which time the remaining one year of the seat’s term must be won via election.

Having retired from the district in December, Scharbor has plenty of experience with the school. Hired in 1999, Scharbor was the transportation supervisor when he left the district seven months ago.

With Jones’ departure the board officially elevated Alfonso Vasquez to the president’s post and Danny Loyd to the vice president post.
