The 15th annual Magazine Christmas parade is set for 5 p.m. Saturday evening in downtown Magazine.

This year’s parade, which has a theme of “Frosty,” was moved up by an hour to have parade during daylight, since many entries in the parade do not have lights.

Following the parade kids can meet with Santa, who will be riding in the parade again this year, at the Gloria Perry Community Building.

Facing a forecast that called for a 100 percent chance of rain on Saturday for what the Weather Channel’s webpage labeled a “big soaker,” Booneville Development Corporation/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce officials wasted no time.

Officials announced on Thursday that Saturday’s planned 35th annual Booneville Christmas Parade would be postponed until 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17.

In addition to the forecasted rain for Saturday, at the time of the announcement was also calling for a 60 percent chance of rain on Sunday and another 100 percent chance on Monday.

BDC/Chamber Executive Director Susan Featherston said there was little consideration for a weekday parade.

“We looked at Tuesday (Dec. 6) but there were things with the school (in conflict), but we picked the 17th mainly because we need to have it on a weekend.”
