Here are a few of the events taking place within, or a short distance from the south Logan County area in the coming week.
Air Force Band
The U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, the at Van Buren Fine Arts Center, 2001 E. Pointer Trail.
This diverse, 45-piece ensemble’s repertoire ranges from symphonic band masterworks, to traditional marches, to modern compositions, to pops and jazz. During a concert, you are likely to hear stirring works from contemporary composers as well as the familiar sounds of John Philip Sousa or Major Glenn Miller. The band also features talented vocal soloists, performing a wide variety of popular, classical, and patriotic selections.

The Garden Brothers three ring circus will be held at the Fort Smith Convention Ceneter on Thursday, Feb. 7. There will be prformances at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., including acrobats, the world’s largest elephant, world’s smallest horse, and more.
Free child tickets, redeemable with a paying adult, are available at various locations including the Paris McDonalds.

Nature Center Events
A sporting goods swap meet will be held at the Janet Huckabee Nature Center, located at 8300 Wells Lake Road in Fort Smith, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.
Buy, sell, or trade your old or new fishing, hunting, and outdoor gear. No firearms allowed. Civic organizations, church groups, and other groups are welcome to gather sporting items and have a table.
If you are looking to get rid of your old items and don’t want to set up a table, the nature center will accept items as donations.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Nature Center will host a couples fishing derby.
Bring your sweetheart out to the Nature Center to participate in our couple’s fishing derby. Participants will need to be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Arkansas fishing license and trout stamp. Daily limits and fishing regulations will still apply.
Check in starts at 9:30 a.m. and the event will begin at 10 a.m. Weigh in will begin at 1 p.m. and the couple with the overall largest weight of fishes will win an overnight stay at Mount Magazine Lodge (subject to availability) courtesy of the Arkansas Game & Fish Foundation. Pre-registration is requested but not required.
Fort Smith Marathon & Expo
The Fort Smith Marathon Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Fort Smith Convention center, but packet pickup will remain open until 5 p.m.
There will be more than 25 vendors this year including a National Asset Truck provided by the United States Army Recruiting Command. Need a quick massage before race day? Radiant Wellness has you covered. Yogaterrium will offer mini yoga sessions every 30 minutes for all experience levels, just bring your own mat. Big Time Events will be onsite for all of your gaming needs.
This event is open to the public and includes fun for all ages, runners and non-runners are welcome.
The 5th annual marathon, half marathon will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8 a.m., starting in front of Belle Starr Antiques & Vintage Market.
