Here are a few of the things going on in, or a short distance from, South Logan County in the coming days.

Hawk Watch

Starting on Thursday, Sept. 20 and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. each morning you can take part in a hawk watch on Mount Magazine. There is a second watch set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Many animals migrate southward over Mount Magazine in September. Join a park naturalist and other bird enthusiasts to watch from high cliffs of Cameron Bluff for birds of prey flying by, sometimes at eye level. Help identify and tally hawks, falcons, eagles and other migrating wildlife.

For each watch, meet at the third parking area on Cameron Bluff Overlook Drive — watch for a white park van. Admission is free.

Night of the Living Dead

The cult classic horror movie comes to the Fort Smith Little Theatre stage, located at 401 North 6th Street in Fort Smith Sept. 20-29. Evening performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20-22 and 26-29 and there will be a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on Sept. 23. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for evening shows and 1:15 for the matinee.

A satellite probe shot goes to Venus and returns to Earth carrying mysterious radiation that leads to the creation of zombies. When these living dead creatures trap seven people in a rural farmhouse fear and suspense take control. Creative stage make-up and technical elements will be employed to tell this terrifying tale.

Free Concert
