The Booneville softball team tested the waters against 6A and 7A competition last week. But the fielding, which had been so steady in the Clarksville tournament, took the week off as the Lady Cats stumbled against Greenwood and Fort Smith Southside.

The Lady Cats had three errors against Greenwood which led to all of the Lady Bulldogs’ runs and two more against Southside, plus a bad-hop single that preceded a Lady Rebel home run.

Booneville will try to get back to form in the Fayetteville/Farmington Tournament this coming weekend.

Greenwood 4

Lady Cats 0

Ashdon Ross singled to lead off the game and got as far as third base before being stranded, and the Lady Bulldogs struck for two in their half of the inning, helped by a Booneville error. Ross picked up another hit in the third, but Booneville couldn’t capitalize.

Greenwood added two more in the fourth inning, with another error paving the way for them to pad their lead. The Lady Cats’ last best chance came in the sixth as with two out, Hannah McClung walked and Morgan Osborne singled, but Booneville couldn’t dent the scoreboard.

FS Southside 5

Lady Cats 2

With one out in the first, Whitney Tatum singled and stole a base. A Hannah McClung hit moved her to third where she scored on a wild pitch. Ashdon Ross made the first two innings look relatively easy, but a bad-hop single to lead off the Southside third inning was followed by a Paige Mendoza two-run homer. The Lady Cats then committed two errors, handing the Lady Rebs two more runs.

Booneville got one back when McClung doubled and was picked up by Morgan Osborne’s RBI single. Southside scored one more in the sixth, but the Lady Cats got the tying run to the plate in the seventh as Katelynn Davis singled and was forced by Taylor Bauer. Camry Robertson followed with a base hit but the next two batters both hit it to Mendoza at shortstop, ending the game. Booneville got seven hits off Southside pitching, but couldn’t produce scoring when needed.
