By virtue of their 47-17 win over Maumelle in the season finale Friday the Booneville Bearcats will be at home to face Clinton in the opening round of the Class 4A football playoffs.

Booneville (10-0) and Clinton (4-6) have crossed paths before, most recently as conference foes in 2006 and 2007 — Scott Hyatt’s first year at Booneville — but also in the opening round of the 1976 playoffs. The schools also met twice in 1946.

A win by the Bearcats would keep them at home for the second round on Nov. 22 against the winner of the Hamburg-Mena first round game. Hamburg (8-2) was the runner-up in Conference 4A-8 and Mena (5-5) was the fifth seed from the 4A-4 — the Bearcats beat Mena in Mena 49-28 in week 7.

Booneville could play a third game at home with a win in that game.

Besides Booneville, and the three other playoff teams from the 4A-4, the Bearcats also have wins over Gravette and Star City who also qualified for the playoffs as the five seed from the 4A-1 and Star City who was the three seed from the 4A-8.

Down Highway 10 a piece, Magazine will also open the playoffs at home to take on Brinkley (3-7), the fifth seeded team for the 2A-6.

The Conference 2A-4 second-seeded Rattlers (8-2) come into the playoffs off a 28-8 win over Decatur.

A win by the Rattlers would send them to Des Arc (8-2), the Conference 2A-6 champion who has a first round bye.
