Given the youth movement on their respective clubs, it is likely that few, if any, saw it coming but Booneville will host Dover tonight for a baseball conference title.

It is the host Bearcats who come into the game having assured themselves a share of the Conference 4A-4 crown by virtue of a 6-0 run through the conference, with their most recent win being an 18-strike out performance by Brandon Wolski in a 10-3 win over Dardanelle last Friday.

The Bearcats (10-3), however, have not played since then because both games on the schedule this week — at County Line on Monday and a visit from Union Christian Tuesday — were cancelled by the opponents in favor of makeup conference games.

Dover started the conference season with a loss to Dardanelle but has run off five straight wins in 4A-4 play so the winner of tonight’s game will take the top seed in next weekend’s district tournament.

Wolski is 6-0 with two saves on the season for the Bearcats and he also hits third in the lineup. Dover will likely counter with freshman Christian Ewing who is 4-0 with a save in conference play.

Booneville has a roster that features only one senior in Jesse Frost and a freshman starting in left field in Trevor Jones. Three sophomores also start, including cleanup hitter James Ray, who has hit two home runs.

The Pirates will counter with their own youngsters in sophomore leadoff hitter Chance Stines, cleanup hitter Luke Price, a freshman, and sophomore Ethan Davis.
