The Booneville seventh grade Bearcats ran for 272 yards to ground out a 28-14 win over Fort Smith Chaffin at Jim Rowland Stadium on the campus of Fort Smith Southside High School Tuesday night.

The Bearcats got (2-0) got 95 yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Brandon Ulmer and 108 yards and a touchdown from fullback Carson Ray in beating the Cougars and head coach/Booneville native Brad West.

The game was played on a Tuesday to accommodate Chaffin, who will bring its junior high to Booneville Thursday night.

Down 14-12 at halftime the Bearcats took the lead for good on Ulmer’s second touchdown run, from 38 yards out. Marcus Nichols gave the Bearcats some breathing room with a 42-yard touchdown run.

Nichols ran for an extra two points after both second half touchdowns.

Ray and Ulmer had scored first half touchdowns but the Bearcats were down 14-12 because Cougar quarterback Taye Gatewood threw two touchdown passes and ran for a two-point conversion.
