Unbeaten through the regular season the Magazine Rattlers reached the district tournament finals as expected, but dropped a 4-1 game to Union Christian in the finals of the tournament played at Hackett and had to settle for the two seed in the Class 2A West regional tournament that will begin this weekend.

Earlier in the week the Rattlers dropped a pair of games to Class 4A opponents on the road.

Rattlers 13

JC Westside 4

Austin Canada doubled home two with the bases loaded in the second inning and Brent Loyd followed with another double as Magazine opened a 4-0 lead.

Layton Robinson and Ethan Fairbanks drove in runs in a four run fourth and the Rattlers led 8-2 – the Rebels scored single runs in the third through sixth innings.

Loyd singled and Robinson doubled in a three run fifth that saw all runs score via passed balls. James Lovall tripled and Alex Elkins reached on an error and both scored in the fifth.

Union Christian Academy 4

Rattlers 1

Brock Smith smacked a two run home run in the first inning to stake the Eagles to a 2-0 lead and proceeded to allow only one run over seven innings to claim the title.

Magazine got what would be their only run in the bottom of the first on a single by Layton Robinson, who was on the mound for the Rattlers. Brent Loyd walked to start the game and moved to second on a sacrifice by Mason Suttles.

Cody Cherry hit into a fielder’s choice in the second and stole second and third but would be stranded there when Austin Canada struck out.

A single by Robinson and a walk by Suttles were the only other Rattler baserunners the rest of the way.

Robinson stranded runners at second in the second and third innings but Union was able to add to their lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Phelps and an error.

Subiaco 16 Rattlers 9

Scoring three runs in each of the first three innings, the Rattlers got off to a good start against the Trojans Wednesday.

However the Trojans picked up three in the bottom of the third and added eight and five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away.

For the Rattlers Cody Shelton singled in two and James Lovall drove in a run with a ground ball in the first. In the second it was Layton Robinson hitting a three run home run and in the third Drew Smith singled home two and scored on a Mason Suttles single.

The Rattlers had two runners reach, both via error and both erased on fielder’s choices, the rest of the way. The Trojans would have no such trouble producing offense against Ethan Fairbanks, Cody Cherry and Suttles.

Ozark 9 Rattlers 5

Both teams had a five run inning Monday. Ozark’s came in the first against Brent Loyd and Ethan Fairbanks. Magazine came in the fifth after the Hillbillies had extended their lead to 8-0.

Jason Lovall singled to start the Rattlers’ big inning and Drew Smith was hit by a pitch and Brent Loyd singled. An out later Layton Robinson doubled home two, Fairbanks singled home one, Cody Shelton grounded out to plate a run and Cody Shelton doubled home the fifth run.

Down 9-5 going to the seventh the Rattlers got two out singles from Fairbanks and Shelton to get the tying run to the ondeck circle before the game ended.
