An opening night split was the best the Booneville Junior High teams could muster Thursday night at Bearcat Stadium.
Ozark Junior High quarterback Ethan Bowman ran 5 yards for a touchdown with four seconds to play to hand the Booneville Junior High Bearcats a 14-6 loss.
The Bearcats (0-1) had taken a 6-0 lead on fullback Grant Rodatz’s 9-yard run in the first quarter. Rodatz ran for 101 yards on 12 carries to lead all rushers in the game.
The loss spoiled the debut of head coach Trent Goff, sort of. After a time on the senior high Bearcat staff, Goff started his second stint as the junior high head coach with the game. Goff led the Bearcats to a 26-4 mark in his first tour of duty.
In the opener of the night the seventh grade Bearcats (1-0) blasted the Hillbillies, 30-6 as Brandon Ulmer and Marcus Nichols scored two touchdowns apiece.
Ulmer ran for 88 yards and Nichols, who also added a pair of 2-point conversions, led all players with 107 yards.
Michael Hesson caught a pass from Ulmer for the other 2-point conversion.
