Booneville’s teams had a rough first round in the Lavaca Tournament last week, and the weather did not afford a chance for them to atone for the losses as the rest of the tournament was canceled due to the winter storm.

Mountainburg 50

Lady Cats 18

After the Lady Dragons established a 5-0 lead the Lady Cats fought back when Alley Vaught hit two from the line and Morgan Osborne canned a 10-footer. But MHS went ahead 10-4 after one and behind four three-pointers in the second quarter, took control. Kaitlynn Davis scored three points in the quarter with Vaught and Logan Lyle also getting baskets but the Lady Cats fell behind 30-11 at the half.

Booneville fought back in the first half of the third quarter as they got two baskets from Osborne and one from Vaught, making the score 32-17 and forcing a MHS time out. After that, however, Mountainburg outscored Booneville 18-1 the rest of the game. Osborne led Booneville with six points while Davis grabbed eight rebounds.

County Line 45 Bearcats 16

An initial bonus shot by the Indians was answered by Dakoda Owens, but Booneville would only get a Dalton Herrera basket the rest of the quarter and fell behind 11-5. The second period was a nightmare for the Cats as they were outscored 18-0.

Brandon Wolski finally broke the drought with a free throw at the 6:27 mark of the third quarter, but CL countered with the next six points before a Trevor Jones layup. Jacob Krepps added a three-pointer and a basket inside as BHS trailed 39-13 after three. The Cats got only a Matt Carter three-pointer in the fourth quarter as Krepps led in scoring.
