Pounding Baptist Prep 49-0 at Bearcat Stadium in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night, Booneville won its 65th playoff game.

The Bearcats (11-0) were well on their way just 51 seconds into the game when Andrew Robertson ran 23 yards for a touchdown. By the end of the opening quarter Robertson had scored his second touchdown – those two carries would be his only attempts of the game – and it was 21-0.

Carson Ray, who led the way with 102 yards on just nine carries, scored his second touchdown two plays after he intercepted Gage Hall to make it 28-0.

The Bearcats intercepted the Eagle quarterback four times with Gabe Fennell getting two of them and Cam Brasher the fourth one.

Fennell’s second pick led to a Jeremy Elliott touchdown run. Fennell ran for a touchdown after Brasher returned his interception to the Eagle 8 and it was 42-0.

Chance Shigley’s 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter made it 49-0.

Baptist Prep ends the year 4-6-1.

The Bearcats will host Walnut Ridge, a 37-22 winner over Lake Village, in the second round next Friday.

Magazine 26 Carlisle 6

Scoring 20 fourth quarter points, Magazine (6-4) ended a seven-year playoff drought by beating Carlisle 26-6 at Diamondback Stadium Friday.

A Kobe Faughn fumble recovery on the first snap of the game led to a Tatum Scott touchdown run and it was 6-0 through three quarters.

Caleb Hyatt ran for a touchdown with just under nine minutes to play for a 12-0 lead but Carlisle answered with a scoring run by Kam’ryn Taylor to cut it to 12-6.

Magazine answered that with a 22-yard Kobe Faughn touchdown run and a Scott conversion run for a 20-6 lead. Hyatt’s second touchdown run wrapped up the school’s 10th playoff win.

Carlisle ended the season 4-6-1.

Magazine will travel to defending state champion Foreman next Friday. The Gators had a bye Friday.
