FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ 95-93 overtime SEC opening victory over the then 19th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers last Saturday at Walton Arena has propelled the Razorbacks into the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time this 2017-2018 basketball season.

Coach Mike Anderson’s 11-2 Razorbacks ranked 22nd and Tennessee 23rd in Monday’s AP poll.

The Razorbacks for two weeks had received more votes than any team not included in the AP poll.

Texas A&M, 11th, and Kentucky, 17th, are the highest ranked of the four SEC teams in the AP’s Top 25 with Michigan State of the Big Team this week new No. 1 supplanting Villanova, of the Big East, last week’s No. 1 but upset by Butler.

While the Razorbacks start the new year new to this season’s rankings, Arkansas senior guard Daryl Macon begins it duplicating his SEC Player of the Week honors achieved two weeks ago.

The Little Rock Parkview grad was named SEC Player of the Week Monday after leading Arkansas with a game-high 33 points against Tennessee.

Macon and the Razorbacks meet the Mississippi State Bulldogs in tonight’s 8 o’clock SEC Network televised SEC game at the Bulldogs’ Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss.
