Meeting could decide finals appearance.
In each of the last two seasons the Booneville and Magazine boys have run into one another in a consolation game in the Bill Frye Classic played in Mansfield over the Christmas break.
The two could tip off against each other again this year in a semifinal round game.
Magazine faces Arkoma, Okla., at 11:30 Thursday morning. Booneville faces the winner of today’s game between Lamar and Hackett at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The two winners of those game hook up at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the 10-team tournament with the winner advancing to the finals at 6:30 on Saturday.
The Bearcats and Rattlers could also meet one another for the third straight year in the consolation bracket — Magazine won the previous two — but both would first have to lose and Booneville would then have to beat the winner of a game between the loser of the Mansfield versus Mulberry at 11:30 Friday to advance to play Magazine at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Lady Rattlers and Lady Bearcats could also take the floor against one another in the 9-team field but could only do so in the finals.
Magazine opens play at 10 a.m. on Thursday against Waldron. Booneville plays West Fork at 4 p.m.
A win by the Lady Rattlers would put them in the semifinals against Hackett or the Mulberry-Arkoma winner. A loss sends the Lady Rattlers to a 10 a.m. Friday tip against the loser of the mulberry Arkoma game.
A win by the LadyCats pits them against the winner of Vian and Mansfield at 4 on Friday. A loss drops them into a game against the loser of the Vian-Mansfield tilt.
