As they have been doing for several years, Magazine and Two Rivers got together for a four-game set on the Monday of Thanksgiving week.

The home Gator squads took wins in four of the games.

Jr. Lady Rattlers 23 Two Rivers 14

The Lady Rattlers led the entire way but scored the final 8 points of the game after Two Rivers got within 15-14 with 2:24 left in the game.

When Kylie Robinson scored 24 seconds into the final quarter Magazine led 15-8 and seemingly had the game in hand.

Six straight free throw misses to go along with Two Rivers hitting 1-of-6 got the Lady Gators within 15-9 with 4:04 left.

A basket — the third of four by the Lady Gators on the night — by Hailey Blythe made it 15-11 with 2:34 let. A free throw by Kat Hill was followed by a miss that Blythe put back in and with 2:24 left it was 15-14.

Free throws, though not a strong suit for the Lady Rattlers (3-1) on the night, played a big part in taking the game over the rest of the way. Two by Gracen Thompson with 1:50 to go give Magazine some breathing room at 17-14.

Another by Raymie Davis made it a two possession game and a basket by Robinson made it 20-14 with 46 seconds remaining.

Davis hit another free throw and Sydnie Pickartz dropped in a jumper a second before the final buzzer to finish off the Lady Gators.

Robinson scored 13 to lead all players. Jailyn Bull had a team-high 6 for Two Rivers.

Two Rivers 48 Rattlers 28

With 1:41 left in the first half the Rattlers (1-2) were down just 15-14 after a Chase Gipson bucket — his only points of the game — that would be the end of 10-2 run and would matched the 3-2 deficit just over two minutes into the game.

Starting with a 3 by Jacob Powell just before the intermission, the Gators went on to score the next 10 points and led by no fewer than eight the rest of the way.

Other that the Gipson basket, as had been the case in the first half, Matt Smith and Randon Baumgartner combined to score every second half point for Magazine.

Smith, who finished with 11, was responsible for every third quarter point and had the Rattlers within 28-20 with 2:28 left in the quarter.

By the time Baumgartner, who led Magazine with 15, scored with 6:47 to play the Gators were up comfortably. Baumgartner went on to score 6 straight for the Rattlers.

Powell hit five 3s and a conventional three-point play and led the Gators with 21 points.

Two Rivers 66 Lady Rattlers 21

There were no field goals for almost four minutes but when Summer Frost hit a 3 the Lady Gators took off on a tear that saw them open a 23-6 lead through one quarter.

Frost’s basket actually made it 8-2 as every point had been a free throw to that point. A pair of free throws by Kelsey Krigbaum made it 8-4 before Kiara Vasquez had the first Magazine basket that made it 11-6.

Two Rivers scored the next 19 points before a Vasquez — the freshman led Magazine with 9 points — free throw with 5:19 left in the first half. By the intermission the Lady Gators had built a 42-13 lead and had three players in double figures.

Clara Grace Prater scored 14 of her 17 in the first half, Kaitlin Hunnicutt 12 of her game-high 20, and Frost finished with her 12 first half points.

The Two Rivers lead was 42 after three quarters and continued to climb to 45 dropping the Lady Rattlers to 1-4 on the year.

Two Rivers 30 Jr. Rattlers 25

Jack Coates, the lone freshman on the Gator roster, scored 22 of his team’s points — four other players managed 2 each — including a pair of free throws after Magazine had cut a once 10-point lead to 3 on a Daniel Witt conventional three-point play with 1:14 to play.

Witt was fouled when he hit a 3 with 1:04 to go in the opening quarter but couldn’t convert the and-one but the Rattlers (1-3) were tied 4-4.

The Gators scored the next 10 points, all by Coates, before a Brady Watson basket made it 14-6 at the half.

Two Rivers led 18-9 midway through the third quarter before Witt, who scored 15, led Magazine back. A pair of free throws and a 3 in the first minute of the final quarter cut it to 18-14.

He hit another 3 and had a three-point play in a span of 52 seconds to get the Rattlers within 28-25.
