Rattlers make return to playoffs. Bearcats have first round bye.
Magazine's return to the Class 2A state playoffs for the first time in four years was a forgettable 41-0 loss at tradition-rich Rison Friday night.
The Rattlers (5-6) managed only 39 yards of total offense and two first downs against the Wildcats (10-1), threatening to score just once, when Xeng Yang returned a kickoff to the Rison 35 after the Wildcats had taken a 15-0 lead.
Four downs later Yang, who led the Rattlers with 21 yards, was stopped just short of a first down at the 25 with 3:58 left in the opening quarter and the Wildcats went on to open a 35-0 lead by halftime.
Rison, a school that has won eight state titles, moves on to face Conference 2A-4 champion Danville on Friday.
The Booneville Bearcats (9-1) earned a first round bye after winning Conference 4A-4 and will face Nashville on Friday at Bearcat Stadium. Nashville (8-3) pounded Monticello 47-7 Friday night.
