The Magazine Rattlers went to the half Friday night one play away from making a statement in Conference 2A-4.

The play never came and Mountainburg cruised to a 35-8 win at Diamondback Stadium and Shorty Wright Field on senior night.

Down just 14-8, the Rattlers (4-5, 3-3 Conference 2A-4) forced a three-and-out to start the second half as Tsim Neej Vang and Caleb Hyatt started the third quarter with a tackle for a 4-yard loss and the Dragons (8-1, 6-1) eventually punted.

The Rattlers started with a tackle behind the sticks themselves and, after recovering their own fumble, also eventually punted giving the Dragons the ball at the Magazine 42.

The Dragons took advantage of the field position, scoring in just four plays as Austin Taylor went 22 yards for a touchdown and Kendall Seratt hit the third of his five straight point after kicks to make it 21-8.

The Rattlers lost a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and though it took nine plays the Dragons stretched the lead to 28-8 on a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Robert Roxin.

It was one of his three touchdowns as Roxin finished with 29 carries for 173 yards for the Dragons.

After forcing a Rattler punt Roxin and the Dragons put it away as the quarterback hit Dillon Jones for 46 yards and a touchdown to make it 35-8 early in the final quarter.

The Dragons had opened a 14-0 lead on a pair of Roxin touchdowns before Magazine got on the board on a 5-yard touchdown run by Xeng Yang.

Caleb Hyatt caught a pass from Trevor Blake for the two point conversion that made it 14-8 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half.

Hyatt finished with 40 yards rushing and caught two passes for another 9 yards to lead the Rattler offense.

The course for Magazine to reach the playoffs is somewhat simple: beat Western Yell County Friday night in Havana. Of course the Wolverines, after beating Johnson County Westside 25-22 Friday have the same goal and can reach it only by beating the Rattlers Friday.
