Down 21-0 after a quarter in Danville Friday the Magazine Rattlers didn’t concede the game.
The Little Johns (6-1, 5-0 Conference 2A-4) were up 14-0 after having run just three offensive plays, a 69-yard run by Quentin Tolbert on the first play and a 44-yard Preston Donnell to Dalton Reagan pass.
A Charles Lewis interception ended the next Danville drive but he Rattlers (3-3, 1-2) were forced to punt and Luke Callahan went 85 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.
Trevor Blake returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards to the Danville 10 but a snap over Xeng Yang’s head and a penalty brought up third-and-goal from the 42.
Blake then hooked up with Caleb Hyatt for 27 but he was picked off on fourth down.
Hyatt would have six catches for 142 yard in the game.
Danville stretched its lead to 27-0 by halftime on an 11-yard Donnell to Evan Lane pass.
Blake hit Hyatt for 37 on the last play of the half, then hit the sophomore again for 32 to start the third quarter as the Rattlers took the second half opening kickoff and drove to a touchdown.
The score came on a 6-yard run by Blake, who finished with 67 rushing yards to go with his 126 passing yards. Yang accounted for the remaining 31 yards in the passing game.
Blake also had 110 yards in returns for a combined total of 303 yards for the night.
The Little Johns got the score back on a 4-yard run by Tolbert then added a 50-yard interception run for a touchdown by Lane that made it 41-6. That came after a 40-yard touchdown pass to Hyatt was negated by a penalty.
Still, the Rattlers responded with a scoring drive with Hyatt scoring on a 40-yard pass play with 2:11 left in the third quarter.
Danville added another score on a touchdown pass from Donnell to Lane to set the final.
Blake returned the kickoff 38 yards but Yang would be intercepted seven plays later and Danville needed only to have Donnell take a knee twice to end it.
The Rattlers will be at home this week taking on Lavaca. The Golden Arrows beat Western Yell County 33-12 Friday to improve to improve to 2-4 and 2-1 in league play.
