Hackett celebrated homecoming at Mills Field Friday night with a 44-6 pounding of the Magazine Rattlers.
The Hornets jumped in front 8-0 when Anthony Collins went 31 yards for his first of two touchdowns in the first quarter, and Brady Hester hit Blayde Chappell for a two point conversion.
After a minus 8 yard punt the Hornets made it 14-0 when Matthew Carter rumbled 18 yards for a touchdown.
When Collins went 54 yards for a touchdown and Carter added an extra two it was 22-0 with 1:22 to play in the opening quarter.
Brady Hester ran 15 yards for another score and threw to Conner Shipman for the conversion and it was 30-0 with 7:33 left in the first half.
Caleb Hyatt and the Rattler offense finally started showing signs of life but the Rattlers would turn the ball over on downs at the Hornet 21.
The Hornets (2-1, 1-1 Conference 2A-4) moved out to the 45, where with 20 seconds to go, Malachi Crone took a pass 55 yards for a touchdown and it was 38-0.
Hester finished with 133 yards on 4-of-5 passing.
Out of the intermission the Rattlers (2-2, 0-1) again drove into Hornet territory but an under-thrown pass was picked off by Crone and returned 89 yards for a touchdown to make it 44-0.
The Rattlers finally reached the end zone on their next possession. After a kickoff return to the Magazine 43 and after the Rattlers moved to the 32 Hackett sent their starting defense back to the field.
The shutout would not be preserved however, because Blake scored from the 25. The two point try failed but it was 44-6.
Blake finished with 73 yards on eight carries and Hyatt had 60 on 10.
Nobody scored in the final quarter.
The Rattlers will be at home on Friday hosting Decatur in what will be the first homecoming game for the program.
