The Booneville Beacat golf team won the Conference 4A-4 golf tournament played in Pottsville last week earning the entire squad an appearance in the Class 4A state tournament next Tuesday.

Shooting an 82 on the par-72 course and finishing second overall, Chandler Fritsche led the Bearcats.

Three strokes back at 85 and in third place overall was Blakely Cobb. Austin Baker’s 95 completed the three man team score of 262.

That was 10 strokes in front of the host Apaches who will also be playing in the state tournament.

Also on the course for the Bearcats was Anson Suttles, who shot a 116.

Heber Springs’ Red Apple Inn is hosting the state tournament.

The LadyCats were third as a team but because Faith Preston and Baylee Moses finished in the top four among non-qualifying teams, they too earned a state tournament berth as individuals.

That tournament was to be played yesterday at Maumelle Country Club.

Second overall in the last week’s field, Preston shot a round of 99 and Moses a 117 as Ozark won the girls division by 19 strokes. Daranelle was second.

Also competing for Booneville was Kylie Rogers and Mackie Plymale, who shot a 122 and 123, respectively.

Leading the sport for the first time, Jake Fennell coached both teams this season.
