Twice in the final eight minutes Tuesday night the Lamar JV was deep in the red zone. Neither possession resulted in points and the Rattlers hung on for a 28-17 win.
The Warriors reached the Magazine 11-yard line but the Rattlers forced an Eddie Gonzales field goal attempt. Though Gonzales had hit from 36 earlier in the game he was wide on a 32-yard try with 5:49 left.
On a fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 1:39 to go Bryer Bowles was stopped by Xeng Yang and Tsimneej Vang for a yard loss to end that threat.
Vang also returned a first quarter interception 76 yards for a touchdown to cap a 22-point outburst after the Gonzales field goal gave Lamar the early 3-0 lead.
Quarterback Trevor Blake had 15 carries for 132 yards, scoring from 62 yards on Magazine’s first possession, and from 11 yards out in the third quarter after Lamar had gotten within 22-17.
Caleb Hyatt also ran 14 times for 119 yards and scored on a 22-yard run in the first quarter.
Ike Pelts completed 12-of-26 passes for 137 yards for Lamar but he also threw two interceptions.

Tatum Scott ran 7 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns and Kobe Faughn added 132 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries for the Jr. Rattlers in the first game.
Faughn added a third touchdown on an 82-yard kickoff return.
