The Booneville Bearcats were in a position to pick up the 20th win of the season Friday, but Waldron put that on hold with a surprise 5-2 win in Scott County.
The loss to the Bulldogs also ended a 10-game winning streak on the heels of road wins in Crawford and Sebastian counties last week.
The Bearcats were 19-5 entering this week and were they were set to end a streak of playing eight of nine games away from the Billy Kiersey Complex on Highway 10 east of the city limits with a trip to County Line but that game was rained out.
Waldron 5 Bearcats 2
A Ty Allen double got Waldron on the board in the second inning against Brandon Ulmer (4-2) and the Bulldogs added two runs in the third.
The Bearcats got an unearned run against Lukas Carnley — who threw a complete game, scattering seven Bearcat hits — in the fourth inning when Michael Hesson reached on an passed ball.
The Bulldogs threatened to extended the lead in the bottom of the inning but twice had runners called out for failing to slide at the plate.
An error and run scoring singles by Tyler Owens and Allen gave the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead through five innings. Gabe Fennell saw six batters in the Bulldog sixth but managed to keep Waldron off the scoreboard.
Before that a two out triple by Wyatt Rongey got the Bearcats with 5-2, scoring Blakeley Cobb, who had singled with one down.
Bearcats 5 Mansfield 1
Mansfield gave the Bearcats fits in a meeting in Booneville on March 17 and on Tuesday the Tigers matched zeros with the Bearcats again for three innings.
Brady Brasher (5-1) was up to the challenge, throwing a complete game over 96 pitches, allowing four hits and striking out seven.
In the fourth two walks and a Brandon Ulmer single loaded the bases and Michael Hesson’s sacrifice fly got the Bearcats on the board first. With two down Cam Brasher got a run home on a single to make it 2-0.
An inning later it was a sacrifice fly by Trent Wooldridge scoring Ulmer, aboard on a fielder’s choice, to make it 3-0. After a Hesson double and a Brady Brasher single, Carson Ray singled home Hesson and Ian Suttles — running for Brasher — to make it 5-0.
Mansfield got on the board against Brasher in the fifth on a double steal attempt on which a trailing runner was erased.
Seth Fudge went five innings and took the loss for Mansfield.

Ulmer had a big day. After Hayden Fennell singled home a run and another scored on the throw, with one down in the second. Ulmer doubled home two, on the way to a four RBI day, and it was 5-0. Brady Brasher greeted a new Pirate hurler with a run scoring single and it was 6-0.
