Randon Baumgartner threw a four hit shutout against Hector 4-0 Tuesday. Hector is a glended conference foe and a potential regional tournament foe.
Baumgartner walked one and struck out seven. He needed only 95 pitches to beat the Wildcats.
After the Rattlers took a 1-0 first inning lead on two errors and a Shaffer Loyd single Baumgartner surrendered two second inning doubles but Cody Day was picked off and Zachariah White was erased on a fielder’s choice to end the inning.
After Day had two relatively easy innings the Rattlers got to him for three in the home fourth.
With one down Pacen Roberson doubled, his second hit of the day. He moved to third on a single by Deven Chappell and scored on a wild pitch. After Austin Canada was hit by a pitch, Brodrik Welling reached on a sacrifice bunt that scored Chappell. Canada scored on a double steal before Welling was tagged out and it was 4-0.
Hector got a man as far as third base in the fifth but Baumgartner set down nine of the last 10 he faced, giving up only a single to White.
The Rattlers left a pair of walks issued by Wildcat reliever Tanner Gaines, aboard in the fifth and left Canada at second after a sixth inning double.
Clarksville 2 Rattlers 0
The Rattlers ventured to Johnson County Thursday and managed seven hits but could not push across a run.
Shaffer Loyd threw one unfortunate pitch in the first and third innings. Loyd hit Clinton Owens with the bases loaded with two down in the first. The Panthers had loaded the bases on a single, a walk and an error before Loyd got the next two men.
Two innings later Reid Ashlock singled and moved to second on a balk, then scored on a double by Braden Nelson but Loyd retired the next three in order to keep it 2-0.
Magazine had baserunners throughout the day against Luke Holman, who threw a complete game.
Trevor Blake singled opening the game and did so again in the third when Loyd drew one of two walks Holman issued, but Blake was picked off at second to end the frame.
Randon Baumgartner and Loyd singled to open the sixth inning but Pacen Roberson grounded into a fielder’s choice, Deven Chappell struck out and Austin Canada lined out to shortstop.
Rattlers 12 JC Westside 1
The Rebels scored the first run of the game against Trevor Blake in the top of the first on three singles with Kyler Stumbaugh’s driving in the run.
Magazine didn’t score until the second inning, on a wild pitch that plated Pacen Roberson who had hit one of his three doubles on the day leading off the inning. At that point there were two down but back-to-back walks by Brodrik Welling and Ethan Cox set Blake up for an RBI single to put Magazine ahead.
The Rattlers went on to score 12 unanswered.
Roberson doubled home a run in the third and Matt Smith, who was 4-for-4, doubled home two more in a four run inning that made it 6-1.
Roberson’s third double made it 7-1 in the fourth and Cox singled home a run, an error got home another and Smith drove in his third of the day to make it 11-1.
Although Westside did not score in the top of the fifth the game continued until the bottom of the inning where an Austin Canada single ended it.
Blake threw all five innings for the Rattlers.
