The Bearcats sandwiched blended conference wins of Cedarville and Mansfield, the later when freshman catcher Cam Brasher hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning, around a six game winning streak ending loss to Dover.

The only team in the South Logan County area with spring break plans, the Bearcats entered the week 7-3.

Bearcats 5 Masnsfield 2

Freshman catcher Cam Brasher isn’t apt to forget his first high school home run. It came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and his club down 2-1.

The inning began with Brandon Ulmer roping a double and Brady Brasher following with a single to make it 2-1 and brought on Hunter Willsey in relief of Jason McAlister.

Trent Wooldridge reached on an error and after Michael Hesson drew a walk the bases were loaded. Willsey got Carson Ray on strikes to bring up Brasher who took the hurler deep for a 5-2 lead.

Working with the lead, Ulmer had an error behind him that allowed McAllister to reach leading off the seventh and after Brennan James hit into a fielder’s choice, head coach Darby Ulmer when to Trent Wooldridge. Wooldridge got Lucas Quanga to fly to right, but walks to Spencer Davis and Seth Fudge filled the sacks. Wooldridge got Garrett Wilson to ground out to end it.

A double by Quanga had given the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first and a single by Davis had made it 2-0 in the fifth.

Bearcats 9 Cedarville 1

Head coach Darby Ulmer entrusted the blended conference affair to a freshman battery of Gabe Fennell, brother of shortstop/pitcher Hayden, and Cam Brasher, brother of pitcher/catcher Brady.

Fennell got the win by pitching the first four innings, working exclusively with the lead after the first inning. Sophomore Carson Ray went the final three to earn a save.

In the first the Bearcats jumped to a 4-0 lead. After Hayden Fennell reached on an error to open the game he scored on a fly ball by Brady Brasher, who was in the designated hitter slot because of a hand injury that made catching difficult.

A double by Trent Wooldridge plated Brandon Ulmer and after a bloop single by Michael Hesson a line drive from Blakely Cobb scored two.

Two walks and an error by Gabe Fennell (1-0) loaded the bases with one out in the Pirate third but Fennell induced a 6-4-3 double play from Justin Shelley to end the threat.

Cobb reached on an error that scored a run in the bottom of the third and Gabe Fennell stranded two in the Pirate fourth, ending his day having allowed two hits and striking out five, but walking four.

Ray would inherit a 6-0 lead on a hit by Wooldridge.

Ray gave up an unearned run in the Pirate sixth as Cody Jones reached on a two-out error.

The Bearcats answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Another Brady Brasher fly ball got a run home, Wooldridge’s infield single made it 8-1 and a Ray triple made it 9-1.

Dover 13 Bearcats 3

A hit by pitch and a pair of walks loaded the bases for the Bearcats in the second inning of a scoreless game and Hayden Fennell singled to make it 1-0. That was about it for Booneville highlights.

Brandon Ulmer grounded out to first to end the inning and Dover took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning rallying from two down and nobody aboard.

The Bearcats got one run back on a Blakeley Cobb ground out in the third but Dover answered that with one of their own to make it 4-2.

An inning later the Pirates erupted for six runs in an inning that started with one of the six Bearcat errors.

Carson Ray doubled home a run to make it 10-3 in the fifth but the Pirates scored three times in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.

Fennell (1-1) took the loss for the Bearcats.
