After struggling to score runs on Monday and Wednesday, the Rattles had two crooked number innings at County Line Friday, beating the Indians to salvage the week.
Rattlers 7 County Line 1
County Line had four first inning baserunners in the bottom of the First Friday, but didn’t score. A double play erased a leadoff single and after Shaeffer Loyd walked the bases full, he got M. Loyd to strike out to end the inning.
The Rattlers then opened a 4-0 lead in the top of the second. An error and two hit batters preceded another error that allowed Trevor Blake to reach and Deven Chappell to score. Matt Smith cleared the bases with a triple and it was 4-0.
Paycen Reames reached on an error that scored a run in the bottom of the third to cut it to 4-1 against Shaffer Loyd before he was lifted for Randon Baumgartner, who stuck out five in four and two-thirds inning for the win. Both hurlers allowed only one hit, both to Caleb Roberson.
Smith, who had three hits in the game, scored on a Shaffer Loyd single and a double by Austin Canada chased Smith home. After two were down Pacen Roberson reached on an error – the teams combined for six of them – and scored Canada to make it 7-1.
Mansfield 7 Rattlers 1
Trevor Blake had stranded four runners in the first two innings and was on the verge of a 1-2-3 third when he left a pitch up and Mansfield’s Lucas Quanga hit it out of the ball park.
Spencer Davis followed with a single that was misplayed in the outfield — Magazine had three outfield errors — and a single by Seth Fudge made it 2-0. The Rattlers went to Randon Baumgartner but Jaicy Griffin singlehome two more to make ti 4-0 before Baumgartner got out of it with a strike out.
Matt Smith singled leading off the Magazine fourth but was caught leaning and out in a rundown — the Rattlers had two runners caught stealing.
Hunter Willsey singeld and scored on a Jason McAllister single in the fourth and another scored on catcher’s obstruction after a throwing error and it was 6-0.
Willsey was in command on the mound for the Tigers, striking out 10 and allowing four singles in the win.
In the sixth the Tigers scored their final run on a ground ball single by Davis that scored Brennan James, who had doubled.
The Rattlers avoided the shutout with a seventh inning run driven by Austin Canada on a ground ball after singles by Baumgartner, who had two of Magazine’s hits, and Shaffer Loyd.

The Rattlers were limited to just three hits, two by Austin Canada, and Evan Jones struck out nine hitters at Field of Dreams Complex Wednesday.
The Pointers to got to Randon Baumgartner, who took the loss for Magazine for a run in the first on two hits and an error and it stayed a 1-0 game through four and a half innings.
The Pointers got some breathing room with a leadoff walk and three straight two out hits against Trevor Blake to build a 4-0 lead.
