Magazine’s stay at the Class 2A regional tournament in Pangburn was a short one last week, relatively speaking.

Seeded third from the 2A-4 West the Lady Rattlers drew a 4 p.m. start against Conway Christian and led for big parts of the first half before losing 59-46. The Rattlers, seeded second after last week’s district tournament in Magazine, drew an 8:30 tip and fell to England 64-31.

The Lady Rattlers (16-15) were up early, leading 13-10 through a quarter and it was still a one score game at the half but with Conway Christian in front, 26-23.

Magazine wouldn’t go quietly, down only 43-38 to start the final quarter.

Sophomore Hannah Smith wound up the leader for the final game of the season. She scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds.

Kalyn Bryan had nine points in her final game.

As was the case with the girls, the Rattlers were giving England a fight, up 13-12 but whistled for a foul on a 3-point heave, the Rattlers (17-12) would be down 14-13 after England’s Marc Westbrook hit two of three free throws.

It was 32-24 after a Matt Smith free throws with 11 seconds to play in the half but a 3 by Brayden Brazeal to close the half made it a double digit deficit.

Smith scored on the first possession of the second half to cut it back to 9 but the England lead swelled to 48-28 by the end of the quarter.

Smith led the Rattlers with 11 points. James Burr and Randon Baumgartner both scored seven.
