Scheduled for the third time, Magazine and Hector met for the first time this season Saturday at Diamondback Arena.

After being postponed on Jan. 6 and 7, the Rattlers may be counting down the days until the rematch at Hector after losing in overtime to the Wildcats.

The Lady Rattlers fell behind early and were abused by the Lady Wildcats. However, the Junior High Lady Rattlers got a much needed win.

Hector 58 Rattlers 45

Magazine (10-7, 3-2) led at the end of the first three quarters pushing the lead to six, 36-30 after a third quarter in which Randon Baumgartner and Matt Smith combined for 11 points.

Baumgartner led the Rattlers with 18 points. Smith had 11, as did James Burr.

Held scoreless in the third quarter Jaden Graham scored nine in the fourth quarter to help the Wildcats rally. Graham added five points in the overtime and finished with 22 points to lead all players.

Tanner Gaines had an overtime basket and finished with 12 and three overtime free throws for Nathan Proctor gave him 11 on the night.

The Rattlers were limited to a Baumgartner basket and a Chase Gibson free throw.

Hector 56 Lady Rattlers 31

Hector’s Darci Fountain hit three 3s in the first quarter and Cassidy Haley hit two more as the Lady Wildcats built an 18-3 lead on the way to a 25-point win.

Racheal Phillips had scored the only Magazine (11-8, 3-2) basket in the first quarter and she added five second quarter points to go with three Hannah Smith baskets but Hector led 31-18 at the half.

An Aubrie Davis basket accounted for the Lady Rattler offense in the third quarter and Hector started the final quarter up 42-20.

Smith scored twice more from the floor in the final quarter and finished with 10 to lead Magazine. Haley had 17 to lead all players and Fountain had 16.

Jr. Lady Rattlers 33 Hector 27

After a five point possession cut a seemingly comfortable 24-15 lead to 24-20 the Lady Rattlers (6-7, 3-1) fought through two tie scores in the final quarter to pull out a win.

Kiara Vasquez, saddled with foul trouble throughout the night, came back to the floor to start the final quarter and ended the eventual 9-0 Hector run capped by a basket by Cameron Meeks tied it at 24, with a basket with 4:55 to go.

A basket by Crystal Blalack retied it a 26, but Vasquez untied it with 3:40 to go.

It stayed 28-26 for 1:45 until Vasquez scored again. Her fourth basket of the quarter gave the Lady Rattlers a 32-26 edge.

Meeks got one point back at the free throw line with 20.8 seconds to play. Raymie Davis rolled in a free throw with 17.2 seconds to go to make it a six point game again.

Davis’ free throw, the only one by Magazine, ended a streak of 20 straight misses by the Lady Rattlers in the game.

Vasquez, who led all players with 18, had scored the first eight points of the game and with a basket by Hannah Green Magazine led 10-0 before Meeks hit a 3 – she didn’t start but scored 15 – to get Hector on the scoreboard.

Vasquez picked up her third foul after missing a couple of free throws with 5:30 left in the half and went to the bench but Kylie Robinson picked up some of the scoring slack with Magazine’s next six points. Baskets by Gracin Thompson and Davis made it 20-11 at the half.

Vasquez picked up her fourth foul with 4:44 to go in the third quarter with Magazine up 22-13. A basket by Jordyn Krigbaum made it 24-15.

Hector got a 3 from Molly Haley and retained possession with a foul call after the shot and a score by Lindsey Mathis cut the deficit to 24-20.

Haley and Meeks both scored to tie it up at 24.
